Will you end up looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Jingle All The Way? Don’t worry. We’ve been scouring the web (and had a little help from Hamley’s) to find out what are likely to be the most wanted toys for Christmas 2012.
Lego Lord of the Rings
The ultimate gift for any child who wants a Lord of the Rings Christmas present. Here’s a review from a Lego shop customer: “This was my first Lego set in a while. I just got back into them and it is one of the best sets I have ever built. Being a huge Lord of the Rings fan this was the perfect Lego set for me and all the other LOTR fans. It is also good for anybody who has not read the books or seen the movies because it reminds me of something out of Lego kingdoms.”
Monster High doll
Barbies have been revolutionised with Monster High Dolls. They’re much better than your average dolls… these have killer style! One Argos customer gave the toy 5 stars: “This item was purchased as a gift for my grand-daughter who was absolutely thrilled with it. She loved the fact that it came with its own scary pet, diary and stand so she can display it in her bedroom. I would highly recommend this to any ‘Monster High’ fan.”
Why should adults get all the hi-tech gadgets? The InnoTab 2 is effectively a ‘children’s iPad’, combining educational games, fun activities and e-books, all on one touch-screen tablet. A reviewer on vtechhuk.com said: “I bought this for my son for his birthday, he is 11 years old and has learning difficulties. He loves it and has found it extremely engaging and very easy to use, he takes it everywhere with him. He especially likes the camera and video functions.”
Cabbage Patch Kids Dolls
Cabbage patch dolls have been around for several years, and were ‘reborn’ last month in Harrods. When the doll was first launched in 1983 there was madness as many parents tried to get hold of a doll for that Christmas – will there be the same hysteria this year? Our best advice is to buy one online and beat the stampede! This Argos shopper said: “I had one back in the say and got one each for my two girls and they loved them. For my four-year-old to do the oath on adopting hers – very cute and nostalgic!”
LeapFrog LeapPad 2
Looking for an education Christmas toy for your child? Keep the kids entertained with this multifunctional learning tablet that promotes creativity and features “the next generation” of gaming and digital reading. PCadvisor.co.uk gave the toy four-and-a-half stars: “The LeapPad 2 now includes not one but two still and video cameras, each at a higher resolution than that of the original LeapPad. It features a faster processor, better memory capability, and improved battery life. Internal storage is doubled from 2GB to 4GB.”
Web Shooting Spiderman
If kiddies’ iPads aren’t doing it for you and yours, how about blasting some evil lizards? That’s definitely more like it, we think. This web shooting spider man includes “double motorized web blasters.” Here’s what Toys ‘R’ Us shopper thought: “This is a good-sized action figure and looks exactly like Spiderman from the films! I love the attention to detail on his suit and his rippling muscles!” Web Shooting Spiderman is recommended for ages 4+.
Retro games seem to be in this year, and the classic Subbutueo football game is one of the most iconic sports games ever made. The new version has been greatly improved which much more detail. A shopper from Toys ‘R’ Us said: “Bought this for my son for his birthday and it took me straight back to my subbuteo days of the 70s. He loves it too, he soon picked up how to play it and we’ve had hours of fun, in fact the whole family love playing it.” Score!
Barbie Train to Trot Tawney
The new must-have Barbie play set. Ordertoys.co.uk reviewed this product: “Barbie Train to Trot Tawney is a new and exciting addition to the popular Barbie range and is hotly tipped to be one of the top girls toys for Christmas 2012. It comprises two elements which many little girls desire – a fashionable, pretty in pink posable doll and a soft maned horse that… you’re not going to believe this… actually trots!” Wow.
Nerf Fire Blaster (Ages 6+)
Have great adventure fun with this Nerf fire blaster. Gadget review.com said: “The N-Strike Elite Hail-Fire Blaster is Nerf‘s highest capacity gun; it can fire off 144 darts in rapid succession. That means no reloads, no clips, just an ungodly amount of Nerf darts tracing across your living room into your foe. The firing rate caps out a 6 darts per second, which means in about a minute’s time you’ll need a reload.”
Master Moves Mickey
Micky dances to a funky beat as he combines over 15 difference dance moves. Here’s a review from Amazon.com: “Dancing Mickey Mouse instantly makes you smile, not only because he does exactly what he’s suppose to do; but also because the setup is so simple there’s even no directions sheet or booklet! Just one squeeze of his nose, and Mickey is talking, moving, and grooving with fun comments and original sound tracks, and funky beats.”
