If you’ve got kids of any age, keeping them entertained over the long summer holidays can feel like a never-ending task. With our top picks of day trips for kids this summer, you can stop the plaintive cries of ‘I’m bored’ and spend some quality time together.
Not that it ever went out of fashion, but Lego has seen a massive surge in popularity over the last couple of years. As it appeals to both younger and older children, you could cover all your bases by taking your little ones and bigger ones to Legoland Windsor – a day out here will be sure to delight any lovers of all things Lego.
Madam Tussauds is particularly good for older children and teenagers, so for a day’s (almost) star-spotting and selfies, head to this central London destination. If you know which day you want to go, you can save money by booking online in advance, and you can buy slightly more expensive tickets which also get you into other top London attractions.
Another great place to get them active is Go Ape , which has no fewer than 31 locations across the country. There are lots of different activities to enjoy for both younger and older children, so look out for bargains on tickets and this could be a great family day out when the weather’s in your favour.
For longer excursions you can’t go far wrong with Butlins. There are camps in Minehead, Skegness and Bognor Regis. You can stay anywhere between two nights and a full week, and the prices are very competitive. Older kids can take part in sports such as rock wall climbing or enjoy zip wires, craft sessions, go-karting and bowling, while little ones can get a kick out of seeing their favourite TV characters, including Bob the Builder and Angelina Ballerina.
With these fun-packed days out you’ll be able to keep the kids entertained for hours and spend some family time together over the school holidays. Fit in as many as you can and you’ll soon find the summer break is whizzing by!
