With the holidays fast approaching I’ve been panicking – predictably – about gifts. While I love the idea of finding something special for the people in my lives, all too often I can waste hours searching for that perfect something only to remain completely lost. I‘m definitely among the unfortunate percentage that finds gift giving stressful!
Luckily, my daughter’s much easier to please. With her the problem tends to be less about what to choose and more about restraint. There’s something about seeing items in miniature that makes buying easier to justify. But, at 14 months she’s still too little to recognise Christmas as being different from any other day, so my husband and I wanted to get her something she’d enjoy while keeping it simple.
Tired of the constant whir of toys that ring, talk and make noise seemingly all day long we decided to buy her some wooden toys that would hopefully keep her occupied and encourage her imagination peacefully. After perusing the usual websites and looking at some catalogues I was thrilled to discover Melissa & Doug’s adorable wooden toys on Achica, which not only offers items at a discount but also donates up to five per cent to charity through Give as you Live.
We chose a puzzle with farm yard animals, alphabet blocks and some wooden food, all of which are durable, colourful and wonderfully battery free!
Glad to tick off one person from my list it was also satisfying to know that this purchase would benefit Cancer Research UK. Cancer has touched my family’s life in a significant way so through Give as you Live the true intention of the holidays – being thankful for family and friends – came through.
