The wait is almost over for the fashion pack, who have been counting down the days until the launch of the Marques Almeida For Topshop collection. October 9 is the day when the results of the collaboration will be launched and when a whole new army of fans are expected to be won over by this East London-based duo’s nineties-meets-millennium vibe, much as Britain’s top fashion editors have been already this year.

Such is the excitement surrounding this launch that there are youngsters across the country limbering up and getting their shoppers’ elbows ready for the moment when the shops open their doors. Designer Look on a Budget | The Marques Almeida brand, the brainchild of Paulo Almeida and Marta Marques, has become renowned for its shredded denims, which have been imitated countless times elsewhere, and the Topshop collection looks set to make this signature look more affordable and accessible than it ever has been before. If you cannot afford to spend more than £400 on one of the original Marques Almeida denim jackets, for example, the Topshop collection will feature more than 50 affordable items — perfect for youngsters and those without a fashion budget bigger than their mortgage repayments every month. The collection features plenty of frayed and ripped denim, along with flares, long leather jackets, bucket hats, chunky sandals and a host of colour-pop cottons.

About Marques Almeida | The Portuguese couple behind the brand joined forces whilst studying on the Central Saint Martin’s MA course in 2009. They launched their original line in 2011 and are now renowned for their laidback — some would say raw — and youthful edge, which taps in perfectly to the current 1990s revival.

The duo used inspiration from 90s magazines and pictures of a 15-year-old Kate Moss to come up with their Topshop collection, whilst still using plenty of new shapes and materials. Two of the key pieces in the collection are a cap sleeve denim dress and a denim sleeveless shift dress, which will both be priced at a very affordable £80 each. This is great news for those seeking cutting-edge fashion on a budget, but will probably mean you need to get in early if you want to bag the bargains.

Other soon-to-be-sold-out items include relaxed no-stretch skinny jeans with a frayed bottom, priced at £70, and a pair of animal print shredded jeans, set to cost £90. These pieces could not encompass the Marques Almeida look more if the design duo themselves were included in the price.

If you want a coat that could not be more on-trend this winter, the collection will feature two of the best. The oversized boxy denim parka has a real Brit Pop feel and is as practical as it is stylish, while the £375 leather midi coat is worth every penny if you want to buy into a look of pure quality.
