Emma Willis has turned her design talents to sportswear. The former model and current presenter has collaborated with Next to deliver a sportswear capsule range that looks so good, you’ll be dying to go to the gym to show it off…
Functional, flattering and affordable sportswear
Emma wanted to create a sportswear range that inspires movement and use. Using her own experience with fitness as a starting point, the mum-of-three was keen to develop “sportswear that looked really good but was functional, and didn’t cost the earth.”
The result is a collection of activewear and swimwear with bright prints and pops of neon colour.
“With a hectic work schedule and busy family life, exercising is important to me; it really helps me to stay focused and feel strong. Adding sportswear to the collection felt like a natural fit, there’s pieces suitable for any workout and we’ve also included some super comfy hoodies and joggers too”. –Emma Willis
The leggings come in two styles, with both featuring a deep waistband, four way stretch technology and sweat-wicking fabric for the ultimate in comfort and performance.
Emma and her team have also designed two swimsuits. They are both functional and supportive, thanks to the discreet built-in cups. One style features a high neck racer with crossover back detail and the other is a textured square neck black piece with white piping detail.
For pre and post-workout comfort, Emma has included a two-piece relaxed tracksuit and a rust overhead sweater with thumb detailing. The tracksuit is cosy and soft and includes a charcoal grey hooded sweater and cuffed jogger, while the overhead sweater is a soft cotton blend.
Emma’s outlook on fitness
For Emma, being healthy is about much more than just looking after yourself physically. She focuses on exercises that contribute to her physical and mental health and carves out moments for “me time”.
“Finding time for yourself every week is so important. Normally, other things that take up my week are for my family with household chores etc. so I do recommend having some time during your week which is just something for yourself”.
Working out isn’t about looking good, it’s about looking after her body. “I’m doing it to stay strong and stay able as I get older”, Emma explains. This focus means there isn’t any pressure to stick to a regime or chase results, it’s all about how her body feels.
“I start with being realistic, looking at fitness week by week and judging how much time I have available to train…so I don’t get stressed out by not doing as much every week as I’d like to.”
How Emma fuels her body
Eating a healthy diet is important to Emma and she loves fuelling her body with nutrient-rich foods.
She allows herself to indulge over the holiday period before resetting with a sugar-free January. Her husband, singer Matt Willis, has even managed to come up with an indulgent dessert to keep the sugar cravings at bay.
“I’m not sure if Matt actually invented or discovered this, but he came up with this dessert for me at night so I don’t eat chocolate: coconut yoghurt, almond butter and some cacao powder (just the tip of the teaspoon).”
A healthy day of eating will usually consist of an omelette for breakfast, salad or soup for lunch, and a nutrient-rich dinner, like homemade stews or roasted vegetables.
