About Manor Gardens Welfare Trust Ltd

Charity number: 1063053

Manor Gardens Welfare Trust was set up in 1913 to teach the poorest women in Islington how to look after their babies to reduce infant mortality which was extremely high in the borough. Islington continues to be a borough of two halves ? very wealthy but also the fifth poorest borough in London. Throughout our history we have responded to the needs of the diverse communities which have settled in Islington. We?ve adjusted our services to promote physical and mental health for a wide range of people from all over the world. Our current services help people take action to change their lives, promoting mental and physical wellbeing and increasing social inclusion. We have expanded to work with people from other local boroughs and our FGM work takes place across London. ? Our bilingual volunteers and advocates support refugees and migrants to access health care, particularly during pregnancy. ? We tackle FGM across London and run therapeutic groups for FGM survivors. ? We support people who?ve had a stroke, their carers and families. ? We break down the stigma of mental wellbeing through Mental Health Champions and encouraging and supporting vulnerable people to improve their wellbeing. ? We match befriending volunteers with isolated older people to reduce loneliness. ? Our Preschool gives children aged 2-5 a better start in life. In 2016/17 we made a difference to 11,812 beneficiaries through 1,500 outreach events, trained 3,470 people at workshops and worked with over 100 partners. We have 340 volunteers.
